This soft pudding for babies, kids and the whole family might be the perfect solution for a quick win at breakfast or snack time.
Ever woke up one morning wishing you had made breakfast the night before so that you can enjoy 5 more minutes of sleep in bed? Or maybe 10 minutes? Yeah, of course you did.
Even more so when you have a small child to take care of and feed some proper food to.

My husband wanted to eat the whole thing, even though there is no added sugar. The apples bring enough sweetness and the fact that he enjoyed it was surprising.
As for my eldest, she enjoyed eating it a couple of mornings in a row and sometimes for dessert.
It keeps well in the fridge, in an air tight container. Serve with a glass of milk if baby is over 1.
What are the goodies in it? So we have fruits (the apples), protein (the egg), dairy (the milk) and starch (the flour). There you have it! Four food groups covered in one go!
Thanks for checking out this recipe and hopefully you will try it out.
Happy baking! And if you make this soft pudding for your baby, toddler or family, would love to see your results!
P.S. I received a question in the comments about alternatives for apples. You can definitely use pears, as long as you slice them relatively thin. I haven’t tested other fruit, but if I do, I will make sure to update this post for you.

How to make this soft pudding for babies?
It’s soooo easy to make; however you’ll have to leave the oven on for a good hour. If that puts you off from making it, then think about those extra 10 minutes of sleep the next day. Okay? Cool. More great bakes from the blog- Easy baby friendly scones

A healthy breakfast idea for babies 6 months+ and parents alike! It covers 4 food groups in one go and replaces successfully cereal for the first meal of the day! You can make it the night before and serve the next morning. It's soft, great for pudding or snack, and can be a good option if you're doing baby led weaning.

Instructions
- Heat oven to 180 C (fan)/200C (electric)/400 F/Gas mark 6.
- Peel and remove the core from the apples. Cut in half then slice thinly. Put the slices in a bowl, sprinkle the cinnamon and the lemon juice if you're using.
- In another bowl, mix the 2 eggs, then add the milk and the melted butter. Mix well. Add the flour and mix some more till everything resembles a slightly thicker pancake dough.
- Drop the apple slices in this mix and using a spatula cover all the slices with this dough.
- Lightly grease your pan with some butter or oil. If you have time, take each slice and arrange it in your pan then at the end pour the remaining dough on top. If you don't have time, just drop the whole mixture at once. No one will judge you! :P
- Bake for 50 minutes until brown on top.
- Enjoy with milk (for baby), custard or even ice cream (for adults)!

This sounds delicious! Do you think it could be eaten cold or does it reheat?
Hi Robyn, I’d say it is best enjoyed cold and with a glass of milk on the side. :)
This looks yummy! Do you think it would freeze ok?
Hi Rhi, not sure, I haven’t really tried to freeze it. I keep it in the fridge and serve it for a couple of days in a row. :)
My top of the pie got slightly burned, I’ll cut off the top bit and let baby eat what’s underneath. Hope it’s yummy and she eats it. She’s picky!
Hi Gala! I always get a slightly dark brown crust on top for this one, so as long as it’s not black, it’s ok. Hope she liked it!
do you think i can use non diary milk, if so do you have one you recommend.
Hi Crystal, yes, any would work. I would just look at the label and choose one that is fairly clean, no stabilisers.
What is best apple variety you recommend?
Hi Nancy, never been asked that question before :)
I like Gala or Fuji myself; for the kids… I’d say the juicier the better? Helps them with the chewing part.
Hope this helps.

Hiya
I have made this recipe twice and it is absolutely delicious!! Even my husband loved it!
Was wondering whether I could try using other fruits such as plums?
Hi Jen, glad the whole family loves it. You could try other fruits yes, just make sure they’re not too juicy. Let me know how it goes.

Mine seems like it didn’t have enough batter. I measured out the apples as directed. Any idea what went wrong? :(
Hi Danielle, trust the process, the batter seems like it’s not enough, but it usually bakes nicely. you can decrease the amount of apples too if maybe yours were bigger than mine or something.
Do you think you can make this with pears?
Hi Ashleigh, most definitely! Thanks for your question, I included a note in the recipe to suggest pears as a substitute.
This was so yummy! Subbed applesauce for sugar and it turned out amazing.
Hi Danielle,
Thank you for the feedback and great substitution! :)
